About Us
Who are we?
Priory Tennis Club is a friendly tennis club based in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset.
Founded by influential local coach John Tucker in the 1980s, the club is home to a friendly community united by their passion for playing tennis – both socially and competitively.
Playing tennis offers several health, fitness and social benefits, including increased strength and agility, and the opportunity to meet new people and play with friends. It’s suitable for all ages and skill levels – so why not give it a go at Priory?
Where do we play?
Previously based at Priory Community School in Worle, the club’s members now play at Ashcombe Park (Upper Bristol Road, BS23 2UG) and Hutton Moor Leisure Centre (Hutton Moor Road, BS22 8LY).
Club sessions take place as follows:
April-September
– Thursday evenings (6-8pm) at Ashcombe Park
– Sunday afternoons at Ashcombe Park
October-March
– Thursday evenings (6-8pm) at Hutton Moor
– Sunday afternoons at Ashcombe Park
Team training for North Somerset League matches takes place on Mondays (6-8pm) at Hutton Moor.
Ashcombe Park boasts three courts, all recently renovated and resurfaced, within a community park setting. Hutton Moor, meanwhile, offers two floodlit tennis courts across the car park from the main leisure centre building.
The club also plays padel tennis and pickleball indoors during the colder and darker winter months, usually at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.
How can you join us?
Whether you’re a complete beginner or returner to the sport, we offer two free sessions for you to get a feel for the club and play some relaxed, sociable tennis with our members. You can come down and join us during our Thursday club nights or Sunday afternoon sessions.
Our membership options are flexible and reasonably priced, as we recognise that playing every week is not an option for everyone.
– Adult membership – £40 per year
– Junior/student membership – £15 per year
– Family membership – enquire if interested
This gives players access to courts booked at Ashcombe Park and Hutton Moor; a ‘pay as you play’ system enables guests to participate in club sessions for a fee of £2 per session or £1 for students.
Priory Tennis Club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), meaning that all Priory members are eligible to receive LTA benefits, including free British Tennis membership and access to the Wimbledon ticket ballot.
You can also take advantage of tennis lessons delivered by club coach Simon Holloway , who is LTA accredited (Level 1/PTR Assistant Coach), DBS checked and trained in First Aid (QA Level 3).
Coaching costs £4 per session for a group of four or more, or £20 per session for a single player. You can contact Simon via 07986 274393 or simonholloway55@yahoo.co.uk.
